The international mobility of VET learners is a key instrument in achieving an important target: the development of a labour-market-oriented VET education combining practical and theoretical learning in order to qualify skilled workers in a practical way and better prepare them for the requirements of the labour market. Transnational WBL experiences represent a fundamental tool for the development of key competencies in dealing with working changes and ensuring employability.

Hosting a foreign learner: which benefits for your company?

For hosting companies this experience might be a great occasion. They have the possibility to integrate energetic and motivated students/learners who can contribute to the success of their business through innovative ideas and new skills and knowledge. They can benefit from a new perspective on their business and take advantage of specific knowledge of the trainee in an area that they may not be familiar with. Employees can acquire additional competencies acting through their role of coach or mentor. Interacting with young workers from other countries they can improve their communication and language skills and develop new ways of working together. Moreover hiring a foreign trainee enables companies to get an insight into new markets, improve their business opportunities and build up relationships across borders. Most of the guest companies have had such positive experiences with hosting foreign students that they continued to hire foreign trainees afterwards!
